This was taken last fall during my trip to go shoot the aspens changing. Located along Kebler Pass, just west of Crested Butte.

Nice natural processing Tyler. Crop or pano? Appears as though you missed the peak by a couple days. The shot has a slight blue tint on my work monitor, but with the graphics issues I've been having lately I may not be the best to judge.

Coincidentally, I was just talking about McClure Pass with a friend from work. It's only about 20 minutes from Kebler. Might need to take a ride this fall.

Actually, there was a lot of unhealthy trees that created those bare spots. They were dead all year long.

This is a crop.

McClure Pass was a total BUST last year. First mistake, we stayed at the Redstone Inn the night before so we could get some nice early shots. Second, the trees looked like they had dropped their leaves two weeks earlier. Most of the groves are on the west side of the mountain, so sunset would appear to be better. However, because they are in the shade so much they turn and drop and lot sooner than the other areas around there. We went down to Kebler Pass and there were still a lot of trees that were green.

I can't wait for this year's trip. We should all try to meet up some place.

Very nice! I doubt I will ever get tired of shooting the Rockies in the fall.

I know I won't :D Only problem I have is picking "where" to go each year (I take 3 - 5 days and just go shoot pictures).

We (my son and I) usually leave out on Thursday when he gets out of school, get to Buena Vista, and stay the night. From there we can go up to Aspen via Independence Pass (Twin Lakes offers some fantastic sunrise opportunities), over through Cottonwood Pass, or down across Monarch Pass.

Last year I was very impressed with the areas around Lake City. Somehow all the trees down there turned at the same time. It was great.

I like to try new areas each year, watch the other photogs and then talk about what is turning where. That is how I found out about Lake City last year. I got to talking with this guy and he told me to go check it out. So, I told him everywhere I had been and it saved him time. He was planning to go to an area that had not turned yet.

Also, there is an online update about how the trees are doing in different areas. I thing this year we are going to consider setting up in Montrose as a base camp and then hit different areas each day. I really want to go back to Red Top Mountain and get a shot from that lake, I totally missed that two years ago. I also missed the Dallas Divide area two years ago because a storm came thru two days earlier and blew all the leaves off.

I still have yet to see the Grand Mesa area, which I hear is fantastic. Maybe we will make it this year.

Last year we put over 700 miles into the trip.

I like the shot too. You might reduce the saturation in the sky just a tad though. I'd love to visit your state someday. Lots of great scenic views just waiting to be photographed.

Completely agree. Last years "fall colors" seemed to happen about 5 - 7 days earlier than normal which threw me off. Meeting up somewhere could be a fun adventure! Hoping to spend more quality time shooting in 2 - 3 locations this year vice the insanity I've been doing in the past.

Agreed! I spend too much time driving and not enough time shooting. I cover a lot of ground and I get a lot of great shots from different areas, but the reality is I could go to a couple spots that are at the right time and not run out of things to shoot. It would make more sense to plan on 2-3 locations, with flexibility of course, and spend more time in each area. Hike up into the aspen groves that are off the beaten path and get some unique photos.

I was up at RMNP Thursday and Friday shooting and J-Blake met me up there. I was telling him about Ashcroft Ghost Town. Is it right next to Aspen, CO. There are a lot of old structures with aspens and peaks as a backdrop. I am definitely planning on going there this year. Between the rustic architecture and the scenery there will be no shortage of photo opportunities.....assuming I time it right. ;)

That WAS the color of the sky. Once you come visit here you will see for yourself. I have never seen bluer skies than Colorado and I have been in a lot of states. The air is so clean and clear here that we get much better blues.

Yep...that's my plan for this year. 2 - 3 locations at most, with a plenty of stuff to shoot! :D

Another cool area that is fun, but requires either: 4WD, hiking, horseback, mtn bike or offroad motorcycle is Schofield Pass (external link)!

I really need to get a 4WD vehicle. It actually pretty funny because I had a 4WD Jeep Cherokee back when I lived in GA. I had to sell one of my two vehicles and of course the Jeep sold before the Acura, so the Acura came out to CO with me. At some point I will have me an off-road vehicle again.
