So, the title says a lot. Groomsman during the ceremony, which will be on the beach. MY equipment (mainly 7d +24-70mm + rode videomic + tripod) will be used by another during the actual ceremony, and I may take over during the reception, etc. I've been to the location itself, and I wont have to worry about grains of sand blowing around--weather will be good too. A few questions:

1. Will I want to setup a second lockdown video camera (1080p sony nex5 w/18-55) to capture another angle--maybe even on a mini-tripod to capture their faces at the "alter"?
2. What's the optimal location to setup the tripod for video recording? Behind all of the guests? To the side, so the cameraman can pan from the entrance to the alter? Behind the alter at a 45 degree angle to see their faces?
3. Are there any general rules regarding filming the reception? I'm assuming I shouldn't be walking around while I'm filming. Setup shop in a corner with the tripod, and stick on the 70200 II? Or am I allowed to stroll around like the cameraguy from "the Office"?

I've paid attention to photographers at weddings, but not videographers!! Any tips or links to useful material would be appreciated!

Purely from a video perspective....

Yes. When looking at video, looking at the same image for more than 30s quickly becomes boring - a second camera angle will let you make some changes to whats shown, and make it more interesting to the viewer. Highly recommended.

Also, if you can mic the altar somehow, all the better. I was the videographer of sorts for my brother's wedding, because our grandmother couldn't travel. While he had a videographer, what I was doing was providing a live streamed feed over the internet for our aunt and grandmother to watch, using my laptop, a verizon mifi, and a bunch of toys I borrowed from my office (I'm in AV design).

Worked out well, but mostly because it could be heard - I had three mics up there automixed.

Move around, but stay out of the way. Two reasons - one is the bland footage issue of having a static shot, the second is because its more fun. If you have a group of the bride and grooms friends dancing together, you can bring a shot above and get a view of them all - typical shot, but fun for those involved.

Good luck!
