I just recieved my new 22" beauty dish from Cheetah and am playing with it now. Since I'm very new to off camera flash anyway, I want to test for light quality, positioning, etc. So far, I'm very pleased with the look this modifier produces. I can imagine even better results in the hands of someone that actually knows what they're doing. :D

I also just spoke to Edward to see if he minded me mentioning this dish since he doesn't have it listed on his site yet. He didn't mind and suggested that if anyone was interested, to email him about it.

Here is my first attempt with the dish. I used my 580EXII and had the sock on the dish. Butterfly lighting with a reflector below. Comments are welcome. Sorry I didn't have a more attractive model too!

Interesting - I've been after a reasonably priced speedlite BD, but 16" felt too small ... it's not listed on the site yet - availability and pricing info available?

This is the silver interior, correct? Or did you order one in a white finish from him? I spoke to him about this a while back and it sounded like he was kicking around the possibility of offering both.

I like it.

This is the white interior. Even though Edward doesn't have the dish listed at his site, you can order one from him via email. I would recommend you ask him then what the price is. I also got the speed pro bracket from him to mount my 580EXII with. I thought the price was very reasonable.

Ok, good to know, maybe he decided to do the dish with a white interior instead of silver.

Here is just one more test. This was from about a 45° angle, camera left with no sock and a small white foam board as a reflector, just to the opposite side of the subject.

I played around with color/contrast on this one and as you can tell, I really need some sort of background.

Details: Camera 1DsMkII, 70-200 f4 lens, f11@1/125th and iso of 100.

Sort of a wicked hot spot on the forhead though. How far away was the dish?

Agreed, but very nice other than that. What type of diffuser does this dish have?

I'd say the dish was about 5' away, I've already moved things around so I can't measure.

I have oily skin and didn't 'gussy' up for these photos. I did remove a hot spot on my nose but didn't worry about my forehead. I assumed that was OK for a male subject?

Dave, I'm not sure which you mean by difuser so I'll give you what I think you're asking for. The sock appears to be a silk or nylon type of material that is white of course. The inner shell of the dish has an eggshell texture to it and is painted a matte white. The disk is curved and painted in a glossy white. The wire supports are designed so that the disk can be set closer or further away from the flash head or even reversed so that the concave side is facing outward.

Btw, I don't know if anyone's noticed but I've never had any eyebrows.

I think he means deflector. What's in front of the flash head?

That is what I meant, he explained it above. A curved, glossy white concave disk.
