You guys are right - I'm sending both the lens and camera body. Should I use the original boxes to ship or a smaller camera bag?

Thanks!

:)

I sent in my brand new sig 30mm 1.4 last Friday. I described that the lens is front focusing at about 10mm - 20mm and that the focus is inconsistent. Hopefully I'll get it back sometime this week with good result.

EDIT: I sent it to NY repair place.

Well I didn't need to send my body along, you never know if you want to use a different body in future (upgrade, downgrade, whatever). So try having it just sent by itself to be calibrated on their cameras.

I honestly thought this lens was just soft at 1.4. spent hours setting MA on a 5d2. was never quite right. still my fav lens tho.

sold the 5d2 for a 5dc and was not happy with it at all. and like I said I didnt want to ship the lens and cam off, and I always rather do things my self.

here is a simple before and after after I did the calibration myself.

How did you calibrate it yourself?

you shim the mount on the lens. if it front focuses then you have to "add" shims, or take some out if it back focuses.

Ok IM curious myself.

What type of "Shim" are you using?

My version on my 1D MK III is somewhat soft at 1.4 but from 1.6 and beyond it's really nice.

So where did you find the information to do this and is there a link we can go to for instructions? I have several other Sigma lenses, besides the 50mm and 85mm I sent off to Sigma for calibration, that need calibrated also but I could not see spending the $75+ per lens for them to calibrate them.

kinda similar to this... http://sigmauserforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=494 (external link)

take 4 screws out of silver mount

lift out mount SLOWLY as there is a ribbon connected at the location of the contacts and its short and fragile.

I cant find a link to the sigma parts catalog thingy... was a pack of like 3 diff shim thicknesses.
