USB 3.0 Reader speed check...

The system:
Dell XPS 17 with USB 3.0 ports
Tested that specific reader on all USB 2 and USB 3 ports on this system.
Also tested a USB 2 reader in the USB 3 port, and che speed increase is comparable to the new reader's tests (i.e. barely anything)...


The results...
Reader issue? Don't have another system to test on

System/Port issue? Checked BIOS, installed various drivers, nothing makes a difference

Cards? The Sandisk are pretty much where I expected them to be, but the Transcend are falling short of expectations... I also tested multiple Transcend 400X cards in both USB3 ports - no substantial differences...

Hmmm, the USB3.0 is not very impressive speeds with the cards you used. I would try it with a 600x 90MB/s CF card and see if it does 92.2MB/s like the ad says? If it can do 92.2MB/s then I would think about changing over to it.

Looks like you are only getting USB 2.0 speeds.

Delkin USB 3.0 reader should be here tonight, if I get a chance I'll repeat all those tests....

Poking and prodding at my system.... Win7 now reports that the USB reader would perform better if plugged into a USB 3.0 port.... And it says that when I plug it into a USB 3.0 port....
Tests now are similar to previous tests....

Sounds like your USB 3.0 port is not working properly.

came pre-installed.... but then downloaded an update from dell...
then from the chip maker...
then an older version...

device manager shows it installed...

Sounds almost like Dell did a half fast implementation of USB 3.0

I'd wait to test your Delkin, before agonizing over it more. And if you continue to get that message, I'd take it up with Dell.
