I am seriously getting back down to reality now... and can see the path clearly...if I need to chalk up $1500 just to switch from Nikon to Canon I might as well not, I surely won't be spending that much if in case the D700 needs repair (I hope haha)

yeah I will but the cheapest would $2800 or something so I am still out about $1300 or so if I sell the D700 for $1500-1600 (which I think is the selling price right now)

I can see the desire to want an 800 L but, you can get shots with a 500/600 L lens too.

Steven, getting back to you on this.

A 20x30 print will have a ppi of just shy of 150 -- considered minimal quality.

That being said, in all likelihood she will love it. A print that large is not meant to be examined with a magnifying glass. I have prints of captures taken with 4, 5 and 6 MP cameras that I've printed at 12x16 and at a "normal" viewing distance they look good and get good responses from people. Yeah, I get close and see the breakdown of fine detail and I wouldn't put them in a gallery or a contest or something, but so what?

So, the best test would be to crop out a smalll portion and print at an appropriate smaller print size, say an 8x10, hold it out or pin it up at the same distance that you would view the larger print at, and put yourself in the position of an impartial viewer (or your sister) and you be the judge!

i would just use genuine fractals to enlarge the print
