Well, after looking at the reviews (generally really positive) of his other books, I got the Kindle version of his 60D book.

Wow, it is horrible. Riddled with inaccuracies. Did you know that the 60D has a magnesium body? That it uses a joystick controller, the display has 920k dots, and has a sliding lock button on the back? I am really disappointed in it. It is clearly a copy and paste job from the 50D/7D with minor updating. Ironically it does have pictures of the right camera, which clearly show that things in the text are incorrect.

I keep reading it hoping that the other content of the book (the actually taking pictures part) will make up for the horrible copy and paste job, but it keeps on listing things that are inconsistent or contradictory.

Well, that's too bad -- I've always recommended that series as being helpful, although I admit that my only copy dates back to the 30D. It would be sad if their research has generally gone so far downhill, which sounds like what has happened. They are so widely available...it would be good to know if that stuff characterizes their latest "work" and give fair warning -- maybe a wakeup call to them. Have you considered registering a complaint to the publishers?

Thats to bad, you should write them. I also have/had one for my XT, and bought one for my 50D...there is definitely a lot of general overlap(same verbiage), and then they tweeked it for the 50D....but to get the stuff wrong you described, sounds like they hired a summer intern to cut and paste....write them!!

Keyan - I am kinda curious: how does a photography book play out on a kindle? Enjoying images are part of the joy and that seems diminished on an e-book. Is this more of a "technial manual", only enhanced?

I tried reading photog books on my Nook... it didn't really do the job very well... the pictures were pretty rough.. and generally, the formatting in photog books didn't play well with the device...

Photog books were ultimately the reason I ended up buying a Gen 1 iPad once the iPad 2's came out.. as much as I vehemently hate everything Apple... the iPad does a great job with photog books... and now I have one device I can read my Kindle books, Nook books, and various other PDF format books on.... additionally, I got the "Overdrive" app which connects to the library in Charlotte NC, and allows me to read everything they have available in eBook format... that alone ended up saving me a ton of cash. Instead of buying new release best-sellers, I can just read them in digital format for free from the library... just like physically going to the library and checking out the book, but without having to go to the library or wait for availability.

I've given up on the third party books. I have purchased several and they all lose credibility because of obvious mistakes. If I need to know something, there's that little booklet that came with the camera.

Do you know you can load that pdf onto your Kindle either with the usb connector or by emailing it to your kindle address? It is a very useful feature.

I'm actually using it on an iPad/iPod touch. For me it's more about the technical information rather than the example photos, but they work fine, works particularly well on the iPad.

If Amazon comes out with a tablet (and the rumors say they are - look at their current product portfolio and it's pretty clear that a tablet that pulls it all together would be a killer device) I'll jump all over that, particularly if the Apple App store changes regarding requiring in-app purchase options with a 30% cut to Apple for everything (like Kindle books, netflix subscriptions, etc) means that those major apps leave Apple devices.

Yeah, the one that tells you that center-weighted metering is "only for experienced photographers" and explains little about what it does.

The manual is useful..ish. It doesn't explain a lot about how the setting changes relate to the actual picture you are going to get. While a lot of it I know or can pretty easily figure out, some of the books have helpful tips about where to get light metering data from, etc. When I can't be out shooting I can at least absorb some more data about the camera and photography.

Post a review on Amazon and he will respond. He's actually very good at that. If there are any inaccuracies, he will talk with the publisher ASAP.

It depends on the photography book, how much is "technical" vs how much is images. The tech ones I can read on either of my e-readers, the photo ones I only read on my hacked Nook Color using the Kindle app. :D

I much prefer e-versions of the technical photography books, because that means I can pack them out and about with me in a single lightweight device if I want some in-the-field practice of the examples in them.
