Recently there was a white water kayaking event nearby where they also had some activities for the spectators

"It was totally his own fault" said someone else who also saw the accident. The photographer had some pains but it didn't look as serious as it could have been. The other guy was unhurt.

Do you think enough about your own safety when taking photos?

LOL, I thought the same thing!

At least he was smart enough to have his camera around his wrist.

Hahaha I love that he's still ready to press the shutter button. That's dedication! :p

Hahaha....I love the sunglasses still hanging where he was standing :D

Yes, if I'm photographing something moving in my direction, I make a point to not stand directly in its path of travel....:p

Yes. On emergency scenes, that has to come first for me or bad things could happen.

hahahaha. Hilarious.
I'm so jumpy when I shoot I probably look like an idiot half the time. Grew up in baseball and I know how painful those balls can be. Looking through the view finder it seems the ball is that much closer.
And when I shoot for the ARC I always, ALWAYS double check where I can and can not go and stay far away from any of the firefighters etc. I'd hate to get in the way and cause something terrible.

With my eye on the viewfinder... I tend to be oblivious for that moment. Then again, I've never really shot in a "dangerous" environment. ;)

You know you're a photographer when... you look for the viewfinder when someone hands you a point & shoot.

What camera was that, anyway? Does it have a viewfinder, because it looked sort of a like a G series... I don't know my compact camera bodies.

I was thinking that sometimes, with my 24mm mounted, I am surprised how close things really are when I look away from the viewfinder. It's really an honest photographer's mistake that the general public does not understand.

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

He also had a lanyard/wrist strap on. I'd feel worse if I got hit AND dropped the camera in the water. Ugh. :(

Only slightly, though. Those folks aren't moving down that zip line at a slow pace; that had to hurt a bit :p

Now, that is stupid. He was literally blocking his path. What kind of photographers are you when you are literally standing in front of your moving subject. If I were the skater, I would push this guy in the face for blocking my path. It could be fatal. The skater could be going about some 25mph+. I shoot cycling races and just imagine I am standing right in front of a speeding peleton going down hill at 40mph......
