This is what I bought: http://www.aurabackdrops.com …-backdrop-pack-p-355.html (external link)

You can pick and choose any three of many for $300. Probably not 'cheap' by some standards, but a really nice starting point. Backgrounds are nice.

I bought this http://www.amazon.com …F8&qid=1304086622&sr=8-13 (external link)

It works great cept for wrinkles. It came with a green muslin also, which isn't in the picture.
Pretty sturdy for my needs.

Okay Frank, I give up. How did he do it?

Space, but the best thing about a white seamless background is that by varying the amount of light on the background, you can go from white, to any shade of gray, to black. You can also color it by gelling your flashes; the lower the power, the more vibrant the color. :)

Muslin is still so expensive, relatively. I get that they're some high quality ones that have been shown, but like the deal above, 3 for $300? To me, that's unnecessary. For $300, I could have a complete background stand setup, A-clamps, sandbags, and still have enough money left over to buy multiple rolls of 107" seamless. To each his own I suppose, but the wrinkles are a killer for me.

I've noticed playing around with my white muslin that gray is easy to accomplish by shutting off the background light. I can also make white with a blue background by cranking up the light. Gels was the answer I was looking for! I don't have any gels. Hmmmmm....

That one looks like the 2 muslin set, if you scroll down, there's the same set with the third chromakey bg for $173...is that the one you bought?

I'll admit, I went with something similar for my stands to start. My black muslin is now used to hold my couch up, and the white muslin hasn't moved in 2 years more than once.

Gels are really inexpensive, and definitely add to the versatility of your background. I see you have a 580 EX in your sig; if you're using speedlights, Rosco makes a strobist pack of gels that is pretty good.

I bought the 2 muslin set and they sent me three...bonus!
My daughter and two of her dancer buddies are trying to start up a web show, so that green muslin will come in handy for creative video! iWEIRDOSga on YouTube if anyone is interested. All video and video editing by me ;)

I just bought two of them! I also bought a Vivitar 285 HV flash as a supplement. Nice, cheap little flashes!

Apparently, my credibility is shoddy now? ;) Here's one off the cutting room floor I took and may edit for a different project. (Shot on charcoal seamless, the other paper I recommend, because it gels well, and works with a ton of different wardrobes.) Someone besides me...does that work for you? :)

Is there a way to mark a post in a thread NSFW?

Sorry about the earlier typo, but I replied to the OP while on the road from my iPad, and it seems to like to decide what words I mean, rather than the ones I actually type!

no worries, it's just one of the funnier mistypes I've seen, but I know all about that. Half the content from damnyouautocorrect.com could be from my iPhone, which also has a random mind of its own. :D

^agree here. Muslin is a pain when it comes to wrinkles and such. I hate a million clamps holding it in place to smooth it out. I also agree that the cost of the seamless paper is great and it works well for me.

Lastolite washable muslin is nice and thick and is an alternative.

denny freedom cloth is also nice but pricey.
