It's that time of year again and the tulips are in bloom. Took some shots today with my new 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II and the result was amazing.

I do feel the reds are perhaps blown out but I'm not sure. I am working on a calibrated monitor but despite the intens colours I can still see lots of details. My understanding of blown out colours is that they lose details, am I right?

Here are some shots which I hope you like! See my Flickr page for many more :-).

Now that I've seen some other flower shots I get the impression that the reds in my photos are WAY blown out. Come on, somebody has to say it, I can take it :-).

Your histogram in PS or LR will probably show that the reds are up against the right side of the graph.
Number one is nice with the angle of the paths and the people. The reds look more magenta in number one.

Definitely! First time I ever noticed such a thing :).

Yeah, I like the first one the best as well because the other ones really are TOO red for my brain to handle or something. Makes them look unreal, cartoonesk if you like and it takes something else (like the stems or the people) to realize it's actually NOT a painting or drawing.

It's hard for the camera system to handle that much red & they get over saturated very easy. But it's still an awesome shot.
