hi,

i am very new to anything other than street photography (ttyl flash on camera)and i am trying to practice for a headshot. Is it possible to fire two speedlites at once? i am thinking one can be on a stand and pointed at the wall as a bit of backlight, and the other on the actual camera. i am shooting with a Canon 5D Mark II, i have a 430 EX II and a 580 EX II, one stand, one umbrella, and two pocket wizards.

any help or links with precise instructions would be much appreciated!

thank you,

r

Just use the one on camera as the master and set the one off camera as the slave. The master will fire and trigger the slave optically and voila!

Sorry I don't as I've used different speedlights than the Canon's. You can use the PW's but the easiest and most basic way would be to have one master and one slave setup like I said above. An alternative (just in case you were interested) would be to have the PW's setup (assuming you've used them before) and have one on a makeshift stand and aim it at the bg and the have the other with the umbrella on your one stand to not only add an angle to the light but to soften it with the umbrella.
