I'm currently testing the waters for a 50L price. Would you buy one for 1400?

It is 5 months old (nov 2010), exhibits no focus shifting, very sharp. It comes with all of the accessories except for the box and is still under warranty.

Would you do it knowing that the lens costs 1600 now?

Check the canon refurb store, that seems expensive. $1295 and in stock there now.

+1 it's where I got mine; UY datecode, works like a champ. Also got an additional 10% off back when they were running that promo. 50L for $1165 :)

I've picked up two lenses from the Canon store in the past couple weeks, both are excellent. Wish I'd known about that store when my wife bought me the 85L - could have saved some $'s.

I got mine new for about 1400 last year. It was very soft. I had to send it back to Canon for some calibration/repair.
If the used one you are looking at is sharp and has no focus issue then you may want to offer 1200 and settle for 1300, if you really want it.
The 50L is a great lens and having a good one right off the bat would be very nice.

Also, make sure you get the original receipt (preferably in PDF format if it was ordered online). You will need it in case you do need to send it to Canon for repair.
