when I double click on an image in bridge it automatically opens it in ps. this is normal.

I often make the mistake of double clicking when I should press the space bar to view an image in bridge. On my newer computer it is an annoyance. On my slow computer this can inadvertently cause me a delay of several minutes (while ps loads) just because of a careless double click.

Is there a way to turn off the default double click feature? or assign it another function within bridge?

In the Bridge prefs, you can set "double click edits camera raw settings in bridge", but I doubt that helps much for non-raw files ;)

What will work, is this: go to Bridge preferences > File Type associations, and set it like this for the filetypes you don't want to open in PS at double click:

Double click won't work then, so you'll have to drag images from bridge to the PS icon in the Dock (OSX) to open them.

What kind of mouse are you using. Some can be configured to behave a certain way for specific applications. Wacom mouse and pen tablet is one example that can do that.

Thanks guys.

Rene I can not choose none when I try to edit the association, it simply is not available as a selection...

Tekerr, I am using a wacom intous 3 so I will look into it. I had given up programing the wacom buttons since every driver update seemed to clear them out. Also I have 3 usb ports and each one needs it's on setup for the intous 3

You can choose Bridge, like I did.
It works, I tried it ;)

What operating system(s) are you using?

Also, you may have misunderstood the comment about changing the mouse (double-click) behavior; unless of course you're using an Intuos 3 mouse. If you aren't what make and model mouse are you using?

I am using windows 7 and an actual intous 3 mouse.

I like the wacom tablet, I actualy use the mouse more than the pen.

The only thing I do not care for are the driver updates, the original xp driver was the best as far as I can tell. After the vista updates it has become a bit quirky...

such as...

not letting the computer power on or off if it was plugged in to the usb port.

Each usb port recognizes it different than the others so if you make a profile while plugged into port 1 and later plug in to port 3 it wont know the profile.

each time a driver is updated you lose all your profile setings and need to reprogram them.
