What is the best size to resize the photos to for flickr and for security measures?
I mean as not to be copied by someone without knowing

What's the maximum size allowed on Flickr? Up to whatever that size is, what you resize them to is entirely up to you. Too small and a lot of people won't even show interest in them.

I don't use Flickr anymore, but I generally resize my images to the maximum file size allowed by most forums since that is what I will be using any image I upload to the web for. E.g. here we are allowed up to 1024 on the longest dimension, which IMHO, is plenty large enough and not to small to actually enjoy the picture.

As far as security and people not copying them without your knowledge. Good luck with that. It doesn't take much effort to copy any image off the internet without the owner even being aware of it. That's a risk you have to consider when you upload any of your pictures to the web. You can watermark them, but even that can be removed by someone skillful with Photoshop.
The only security against someone copying your photos from the web is don't store them online, especially at a public image host.

I upload full size to flickr and smugmug. You can then set security from a site level perspective, or down to the individual images. If you look at my flickr, the largest size you're allowed to see is the 1024 version, even though the original size is present. Flickr also resizes for you, if you want to post the 1024px version here, or even smaller.. plus it automatically creates the BB code for you to do so, so it's just a copy and paste and your done.

Assuming you have a decent internet connection, I'd recommend always uploading full sized images. At the very least, should your PC crash or your house burn down, you can always re-download your full sized images. Just make sure you have security set correctly before you do so! :)

Just keep in mind that others can't see your exif data on any flickr resized pictures, only the original one will retain that data if you care. I used to keep it full size and upload the 1024 but hated not having the exif data follow through so now I upload a 1024 image

I upload at 1024px on the longest side. If anyone want to steal it then there is nothing I can do about it really.
If you are worried about this happening then don't post images on the internet :-)

What? That doesnt' make much sense. I upload all of mine full size, every time, and you can see my EXIF data.. Flickr doesn't touch your EXIF data.. it either displays it, or it prevents it from being displayed, but the data is always there (assuming it was there to being with).

Edit - Oh, I think I see what you're saying.. if I upload the image to flickr, then choose to share it at 1024 (or whatever size), the EXIF data isn't in that resized image that I'm sharing on the forums, or wherever.. that's correct..

but... if you click the image to follow it back to flickr, you can then view the EXIF information on flickr.. unless you're one of those frustratingly strange people who purposely remove the link back to their flickr account.. (which doesn't hide the account owner anyway, and is against flickr TOS..)

Correct, the exif always displays in the "original" but I can't post the 5xxx X 3xxx on forums and I hate having to post it or explain my settings. Plus, I don't want to have to go to someones flickr to see the settings. I would rather right click and see it inline. Just my personal preference. If I need an original and I'm away from my computer I can always get in so there is no reason for me to upload full res personally. :D

If you're worried about unauthorized downloads, don't use Flickr. It's main purpose in life is to share photos (like Facebook). They have some security controls, but not in their best interests. Use something like Smugmug or Zenfolio, but it will cost you.

Now I upload to Flickr a lot using Lightroom 3. I resize to about 2K pixels on a side, but this mainly to allow the viewer to see the photo in their monitor at full screen.
