In an absolute sense I do NOT trust what my eyes perceive as white...simply go to a paint store with all the various shades/hues that we identify as 'white' when we look at one color swatch alone, but then decide it is 'not so white'

Then to put it simply, Those wouldn't be pure white now would they. White is White, Black is Black anything in between just isn't Pure.

Now we're just debating in circles!

I agree, pure white is pure white...but what we PERCEIVE to be white will usually NOT be 'pure'.
