Today was a day I feel compelled to share, if only in some odd self help therapy effort.

I am an amateur enthusiast who knows his limits and works hard to expand 'em.

I love to share this enthusiasm for photography as a great hobby and most rewarding way to pass time.

A friend has her like passion stoked but struggles to get out of the green box.

I recently convinced her to attempt raw and experiment with ventures into the AV and TV modes!

She happened by my home soon after shooting several hours of her friends newborn, posed alone, with Mom and also Grand-mom.

All went well, but a few questions were raised about ISO/f stop/shutter speed combos and darker images.

I asked for her compact flash card and whipped it into my computers card reader. Lightroom booted up and failed to see the CF card! I pulled it out, placed it back in the 400D and it read CF Card Problem.

Oh-ohh.

Tried my CF card out of my 7D. It also could not be seen!

I replaced it into the 7D and – same message.

My CF card reader was corrupting the cards! Closer inspection revealed one of the pins bent down and that was all it took to wreck havoc over the integrity of the card (s)!

What to do?

A search on POTN revealed a most helpful thread whereupon I benefited from the knowledge of others & ended up " PC Inspector File Recovery" managed to save, salvage and recover all but 3 of over 200 images!

Talk about a major sigh of relief!

I truly thought my ham handed handling of the CF card ruined any hope of her ever seeing her images!

The entire event frazzled me . . and tested her.

Let's see how much longer she seeks me out for any advice on how to free herself from the GREEN BOX!

AFAIK, a corrupt read does not always mean a corrupt file on the CF card.

Your reader had a physical failure, right? A healthy reader should not produce the same results.
