I am full of admiration for the photographs you guys take in here, unfortunately a lack of patience, skill and kit means that my BIF pictures are shockingly bad but am looking for help identifying these birds...

I live in Central Europe and they are probably a little larger than a large pigeon and they tumble and gambol in flight and re geat fun to watch. I assume that they like water as this is the first year we have had them close to home (fairly common at a local lake) but we have lots of standing water due to some flooding and that is where they are to be found.

The call they make is incredibly distinctive and almost sounds electronic with beeps and screeches almost sound like a little pocket noise generator I had one Christma when I was a kid, certainly unlike anything I have heard from a bird before!

Thanks in advance for your help

Brian

The tail pattern looks good for Northern Lapwing.
