Hello,

I am looking for a bag for the following:
- Canon G11 w/ Jackar 72mm Adapter
- Canon 430EX II

I searched for as many posts & pics I could find on google & POTN, but looking for some user feedback.

So far I have these in mind :

- Domke F-5XA
http://www.tiffen.com …ame=domke&itemnum=700-51B (external link)

- Lowepro Adventura 120
http://products.lowepro.com …Adventura-120,2159,20.htm (external link)

* Does anyone know of these will fit either bag?
* Any pics of your gear in above bags or similar sized bags
* Any pics of these on your shoulder/carrying?

Thanks for the time and feedback, Appreciate it. :D

I carry my G12 and a 430 flash in an older Solidex video bag. Works great, but I doubt if you could find a bag like that.

Concern about the Domke bags....enough foam padding ?

For my DSLR's I use either a Kata 3N1 or a series of LowePro's...all well padded and I add foam blocks.

I also have a Kata DHP 485 as a little carry around bag for the G 12 only.

I don't have a bag to carry the G11 with a 72mm adapter (Lensmate) attached. However, it looks to me like your would need to move up to the Lowepro Adventura 140 instead of the 120. I measured my G11 with the 72mm adapter attached, and my 430EX II. I assumed the G11 would be put in the bag with the left side down, and wrist strap up. Then the 430EX II would be put in with the flash head down, most likely with the Sto-Fen Omnibounce diffuser attached to the head. This would give me dimensions of roughly 6.5"x3.25"x6" to accommodate. The 140 bag has inside dimensions of 6.7"x3.7"x6.9", while the 120 bag is 5.1"x3.7"x6.3", so it is too tight for my feelings.

I generally carry my G11 in a Lowepro Rezo 60 on my belt, and would carry the flash and 72mm adapter together in a belt pack (fanny pack) I've had for several years. Recently I got the Canon FA-DC58B filter adapter for the G11, and use 58mm filters. Much more compact. Something to consider. It zooms with the lens, and there are no vignetting worries.

I agree with denncald - you'll need more compartments if you have the camera, a flash, filter adapter(s) and presumably, filters (including case for filters).

I chose the Lowepro toploader 45AW and if it weren't for the UNpadded front pocket to carry my 270EX, I don't think the filter case and camera with fa-dc58 adapter attached would all fit in.

The only thing I would say is buying a camera bag is that it a really all down to personal experience, you can read the specs, do the reviews – the bottom line is you need to take all the kit you want to carry to a store/shop and try them out – see how it fits, how accessible is it, look at the details. Also there is no ideal bag, I must admit I have a couple, one for going really light which basically holds the camera, I then have a larger system bag which holds:

  • Wide angle adapter fitted to a short adapter tube
  • Close up lens on an adapter tube with a metal lens hood which takes 77mm filters, fitted with a lens cap
  • Full sized flash gun
  • Off Camera Cord
  • Flash bracket
  • Flash diffuser
  • 2 x additional close up lenses in various strengths a +4 and +8
  • Various filters in 77mm – so polar, ND10, IR72
  • Spare battery
  • Various bits, lens cloth, blower brush, pen, etc, etc

This all fits in a Lowepro Classified 160AW – I think this is an older design, but if you can find one they are a great bag, nice details and build quality, also it is part of the AW range which means it has a rain/dust cover if needed… OK so that lot moves it away from the pocket camera system, but it is what I need and use. I also have the bigger 250 some of my DSLR kit!!

I have a G10 with a 430exII, Lensmate adapters, telephoto and wide angle lenses, filters, flash diffiuser, off camera cord, battery charger for the camera and flash, monopod, and various cables and accessories.

I am using the Tamrac System 3 bag and it works very well. I started with the System 2 bag, but very quickly realized it was too small. The System 3 bag fits everything perfectly without being too big.

I use the Tamarac 5689 when I am only carrying the camera without any accessories.

I got the Lowepro Apex 120 (external link) and it is PERFECT for the G11 + 430ex II.

I can also fit the charger and a bunch of spare batteries/SD cards. Everything goes in pretty snug, not shaking around when I walk.

Agreed - you will drive yourself crazy comparing specs of all the options out there online - and in the end won't get nearly as good a sense of what you might like as if you had tried some in person.

Speaking of which, I have a bag which DOESN'T fit the G11 + 430ex for sale. ;)

I second djrosen. I like to carry all my stuff in one bag so I use the Tamrac System 3 bag. I started out with a Lowepro Adventura 140 but it just wasn't large enough to carry everything comfortably. The System 3 is easy to organize with lots of compartments, etc.

I <3 my Naneu Pro Echo-X sling bag (external link). Fits all of my gear (g12, external flash, extra filters/diopters, remote cable and some other odds and ends) and a bottle of water/snacks for hikes!

My main bag is a Tamrac Explorer1 (external link) I wanted to keep it as small as possible and still carry. G12, filter adapter(s), Ste2, 550ex, batteries, filters, flash bracket and minipod. It's worked out well for me.

Have fun

I've become a HUGE fan of the Kata bags. They have many options like the other makers but one of the best features is the yellow interior. Makes it super easy to find stuff in the bag. But as far as the style you go with, nobody can tell you whats going to be best for you.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions & feedback.

I ordered up a Domke F-5XC for my DSLR & based on the build/design I went with the Domke F-5XA. The Domke F-5XA seems to be only thinner width wise than the F-5XB and with the same height/depth as the F-5XB. I was wanting a small profile bag & this fit the bill.

I currently have it set up with a:

Main Compartment; Sectioned into 2x Compartments:
1st: Canon G12 w/ Canon Filter Adapter FA-DC58B
2nd: Canon 430EX II & 4x AA Batteries

Front Two Pouch/Pockets:
- 1st: 2x SDHC Cards in Case; 2x NB-7L Batteries
- 2nd: Timer Remote for G12

Everything fits perfect and exactly what I was looking for. Will try to post up pics soon.

Thanks again & Have a great one
