I picked up a Hoya circular polarizer for my kit lens and although it does what its meant to do, i feel like it adds quite a bit of noise\graniness to the pictures quality. is that normal

Are you shooting in one of the auto modes? Since a polarizer reduces the amount of light that comes through the lens if you shoot in any mode that selects ISO for you it may be selecting a faster ISO speed to compensate and giving you that noise.

oh man, that's not normal. but, like marubozo said, you do lose light (~2-3 stops from my experience). if you are compensating for this by bumping up iso or exposure in post, you would see more grain. im assuming that's not what you're doing, i would definitely look into a better CPL. I recommend B+W KSM and Marumi, they are two of the best.
