Pre wedding shoot location scouting

Any tips on how you choose locations for pre wedding shoots?

The couple makes suggestions, I choose the best ones.

Start investing in a lot of time looking for random locations.

I usually ask if they like water, trees, grass, urban etc. Then I gauge how I see them as a couple and select the final location(s).

I do just the opposite. I suggest the locations and let the couple decide. I have yet to find a couple that was better at picking locations than me.

For me, it's actually a little of both. I'll ask them if they have ideas based on their history together, what they like to do, etc. If they have nothing in mind, I'll offer up some suggestions.

I scout two weeks prior to the event at a time of day that matches when I will be shooting the couple. I select locations based on quality of light, background and the length of time to get there. I also consider where the bride will be getting ready so the groom won't accidentally see her if that is what they desire.
