A few 30s light frames through a 150mm f/5 reflector and 7D @ ISO 400.

100% crop inserted in the frame.

Enjoy

Unfortunately, I haven't taken pictures of the setup. But that shouldn't be a problem.. as we have our good friend google that has a nice collection.

Just a short explanation I find useful related to the terminology used. When talking about astrophotography, "150mm f/5" means an instrument with a diameter of 150mm and a focal length of 750mm - the essential feature of an instrument is its diameter, so that's the first information given.

So do not expect to see M57 as large as on this picture using a 150mm FOCAL length.

Cheers

Great shot and great FOV with the small M57.

Try for longer and more exposures, you might just start to bring out the inner stars of the nebula.

Thank you for your comments.

I will post a nice wide field, full res and with no inserts. It was a quick^n dirty one in the excitement of the moment :)

I only shot 13 frames.. spent half the night getting the goto to work. Still doesn't. However, I am happy to report that the mag 15 white dwarf is visible. Not bright, but there none the less.

I realised I have no idea of the relative sizes of the Messier objects. maybe someone can point me to a set that was shot at the same focal length? Except for Andromeda, all should fit in my 750mm frame (on crop senzor) - but some will be very small?

Those will be trial and error for that size scope but you can check at Celestrons' website for the Omni 150mm scope images . Pretty much the same scope and there is some images to show you what to expect .

CCDCalc (external link) is just the tool for you. You select your object, camera and lens/telescope and it will show you an image scaled to suit.
