Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? I am browsing the free LR preset thread and have gone to this site to try some out.

http://www.presetsheaven.com …esets-to-wow-your-photos/ (external link)

I click to download, it downloads a zip file, I can see it in "my downloads", I open LR3, go to the develop module, right click in user presets, click to import, search in my downloads and they aren't there. I re-open document>downloads and they are there. I'm lost. I'm sure it is something easy. Anyone? Thoughts? Thanks....

Edit...Windows 7

Before importing extract them from the zip.

I have googled this but can't seem to figure it out. I right click on it and nothing. Sorry for the silly questions. I'm really not this slow. Does windows 7 really not have the capability to unzip a file built in?

Well, I have googled like I have never googled before and can not figure out how to unzip (extract) these files in order to import them into my LR3 user presets. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Again, Windows 7 and LR3 are what I am working with.

Not at my Win7 machine right now, but it goes something like this: double-click on the zip file and it will open in a window showing the contents. Somewhere near the top of the window will be a link saying something like "extract all files." Click on that and it will ask where you want to save them, and by default will propose a new folder with the same name as the zip file. Accept the defaults or change as your needs dictate.

I think this is one of those things that is so easy to do that we tend to overlook the obvious and try to make it harder than it is -- I know I have that problem at times!

Windows has the ability to open files with the .zip file name extension. Right-click on the file and select Open. (If that doesn't work try "Open With" and choose Windows Explorer)

You should be able to right-click on the zip file and choose Extract All. Pick the LR preset folder for the destination and you are good to go.

This is completely ridiculous. Now matter how I try to download these files once in my documents/downloads or wherever I put them, if I double click on the file it just opens lightroom and there is no way in the world to import the preset. If I open LR myself and go to user presets, click import, the little search box comes up but the files are nowhere to be found. No matter what I do there is no option anywhere to "extract" the files from the zip. If I click open file or open with, it just opens LR again and there the files are nowhere to be found. I'm kind hitting a wall here. I'm sure it is something very easy, but it is driving me nuts!

Double clicking a zip file should not open Lightroom. So what is the file name extension of the files you're downloading?

I have just gone to the above link and clicked download on a few of the presets. The file name is
Petruzzo-Photography_Presets-01.zip

I click it and it opens LR. I have tried this with several of the presets. I am pretty sure I ma downloading correct.

THen you have your Windows File Associations screwed up...by default a zip file should open in Windows Explorer unless you have another compression program like WinZip or Win-Rar installed on your computer.

You should still be able to right-click on the zip file (don't double-click) and select Open or "Open With" from the context menu.

I right click and select open with and the only options are to open with LR. When I do that it brings up an import window, but the preset is nowwhere to be found. It is just looking for pictures.

Then you need to reset your file association. Right-click on any .ZIP file and select the "Open With" option from the context menu. Another dialog box will appear...select "Choose Default Program" in that box...

Now a third dialog box will appear...select Windows Explorer in that final box, and make sure the option that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is checked. Then click okay. You will now be able to open your zip files with Windows Explorer.

What version of Windows are you using?

Crazy...So I am using Windows 7. I click open with, there is not a "choose default program" option but there is an "select other program" option and I choose that and there is no "windows explorer" option.
