When you get to that stage, click the "Browse" button in the lower right corner. in the dialog box that pops up, navigate to C:\Windows and select the Explorer.exe file.

Note the path is C:\Windows...the dialog box will come up with a path that might not be correct so you'll have to change it manually.

Crazy...So I am using Windows 7. I click open with, there is not a "choose default program" option but there is an "select other program" option and I choose that and there is no "windows explorer" option.

Are you saying that when you right-click on the Zip file that the Extract All option does not appear? If not, that's very odd -- settings are screwy somewhere. My Win7 (64) both has that option and, when you double-click it opens Windows Explorer to show the files that are "packaged". But they have to be Extracted in order for LR to use them.

I will say that the zip "type" is in a bit of "limbo" seemingly -- it doesn't show up as a "file type" in Windows but as a "folder"...so using the File Type Associations too out of the Control Panel doesn't work because ".zip" doesn't show up. So, hopefully, you will be able to use the Open With/Browse option to get things working.

None of this answers why Lightroom is "set" to open the file -- I have Lightroom 3 installed on my Win7 64 machine and it doesn't mess with the zip.

I do not have windows explorer anywhere. What the heck?!!!!!? Do I need to reinstall windows 7 or something? I have never had any issues. And no, there is no "extract all" option anywhere. I really screwed up and tried internet explorer and it caused everything to go totally haywire. Now everytime I re download the zip it is as an internet explorer file. I'm totally lost. Keep offering suggestions if you want, but at this point this is beyond POTN. This seems to be a computer issue I am having. Thanks for your time folks.

Are you saying that the "Open With" dialog box doesn't include windows explorer, neither top half ("recommended programs") nor the bottom half ("other programs") ?

If so, then follow what PixelMagic said...re: click the checkbox entitled "Always use the selected program....", then click the Browse button and navigate to you windows installation folder (Typically C:\Windows) and double click on the "Explorer.exe" (assuming you have extensions shown...otherwise it'll merely say "Explorer")

If you still don't find Explorer.exe in your Windows folder --> go to task manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc), Processes tab, find explorer.exe in the list and right-click on it, then choose "Open File Location"

Okay, somehow I managed to maually type in the pathway that lead me to someplace that I found windows explorer. I was somehow able to freakin finally get an option to extract all. I did so and put them into a nice little file I decided to call LR presets. This is in public documents. Now, I thought I had it licked (not sure I could do it again) so I opened LR to import them and low and behold my nice little "LR presets" folder is empty. I go back to documents and sure enough there are the three presets I have been trying to extract all day. Go back to LR and nothing. I promice you I am no total noob. I am just getting twisted up somewhere. Or my machine is.

OK, you're making progress.

I don't have any user presets that I've downloaded and imported -- could you post a link to the zip download page? I can see how things show up (and maybe others could as well).

Ha! So I went back and right clicked on the the actual file that is in my nice little LR preset folder and it gave me an option of "installing" it into LR. I said "sure, go for it" and what do you know, it did it. This is not even close to the 10 second method that was described on the web site. But they are there. I sure would love to think I could easily import a bunch of free presets for the www, but I don't know if I can reproduce whatever it is that I have just done. Again, thanks for your time and any further suggestions you want to shoot my way are much appreciated.

Hey Tony, thanks for staying with me. The web site is linked in the first post in this thread. I have tried several of the different downloads. Go there and tell me what you think. I am going to go back a try another and see if I can't clean this process up.

Well, we will see what comes up! glad you got everything sorted out -- it's just very odd how things got so tangled. You say that you recently installed Internet Explorer -- what version is that? I'm on version 8 and haven't seen bizarre behavior.

No, internet ex and windows 7 have been on this rig. I have no idea how things are this tangled up. The biggest problem was finding windows explorer. Once I found that I was able ot open the zip and install into LR. I just did it again with another download. It wasn't that hard, but not at all like it is supposed to be done. Thanks everyone...POTN to the rescue once again!

You still need to straighten out that file type association problem and get it reset so that .zip files will function as intended.

So, I was only able to get those zips to open by manually entering C\:Windows....per your suggestion. I sure would like to be able to simply right click on a zip and extract all. Do you have any suggestions without making a big deal about this this morning? :)

The simplest thing to do would be a Registry Merge. You can download this file, double-click on it and follow the prompts to merge it into the Windows Registry: http://www.sevenforums.com …s-restore-default_zip.reg (external link)
