I finally got a chance last night to get a good shot of one of my favorite critters - the Mediterranean Gecko. 300mm, f/8.0, 380EX flash, from about six feet (minimum focus length). I've missed shots of him before when I saw him, ran in to get the camera, and then he disappeared before I got back outside. My wife saw him and called me outside, so he stayed still and (according to him) "hidden". The color is right on accurate - the paint on the eaves is that color. I was pleased with the focus on his eye; with the shot DOF, the rest of him fuzzes out. Maybe next time I'll have time to screw on a close-up adapter to get better DOF. We have some much smaller ones around our house - this one was around three inches.

Edit: Forgot to resize the shot... Reloaded.

Interesting. I've never seen one that color.

They're pretty well all the pink variant around here. My folks live just north of Ft Worth (about 210 miles north of here) and they have some of the pink variant, but mostly the tan/buff to almost brown colored ones. The juvenile pink ones are nearly transparent - I'm still on the prowl to get a good shot of one of them. We have at least two in the front yard that are less than an inch and a half.

Ha, I saw one of those the other day in the garage and wondered what it was called. I'm sure it's the same critter since I'm about 60 miles NW of Austin. Thanks!
