I have been trying to find a good keyword list for organizing my bird photos within Lightroom. Originally I had decided to use CVKC (external link) but found the provided bird list to be lacking (I still use CVKC for other keywords, just not birds). After not having a lot of luck with finding one, I decided to build my own.

My keyword list contains over 2000 individual bird species. The species are organized by scientific order and family. I have included scientific names, common name banding alpha codes, scientific name banding alpha codes, and alternate names as synonyms for the species keywords. The alpha codes are based on the 2010 list provided by the American Ornithologists' Union. If you're interested in the keyword list you can grab it here (external link).

I'd appreciate any feedback and am always looking to expand it if you have suggestions.

Thanks for the list. I think I can put this to use. That was a bit of an undertaking!

Hi, this seems like a great tool for birders! Right now I'm struggling to understand how I can organize my keywords, so I don't have to write each keyword on a bird. I use the Spanish and English names and then the Scientific. I tried to import your list, but I get an error. "Only Text files encoded with the ASCII or Unicode FT8 are supported when importing keywords."

It definitely is a great effort to make a list like that!

Gloria
