I just bought a 60d, and I am having trouble with the video playback on my computer. The audio sounds great, but the video is choppy and skips. I dont care about the HD. I just simply want to burn these videos to a dvd. What is the best way to do this?

I know there are other posts about this with the 5d... I am just a little confused and hoping someone can tell me the easiest solution.

Thanks :)

Choppy playback may be because your computer is underpowered, or overloaded with some other resource intensive application in the background (sometimes antivirus will do this, or the operating system's routine maintenance or search indexing function).

The good thing is that playback quality doesn't effect your conversion and dvd burning.

Perhaps you have Nero on a PC or iMovie on a mac.
There are free applications for both platforms that do very basic editing and transcoding. There are also dvd burning tools built-in to the operating systems.

A google search should help you find a step-by-step video on youtube if you need the extra help.

I like making photos and sometimes I think I'm getting better... then I realise it doesn't matter. I like making photos!

^yep. I've heard of people using transcoding software to fix those problems.
I found that my playback/preview settings were too high when editing and it really taxed the computer. Edit in low resolution to conserve resources.
And like bdp23 said, first step is to kill background programs and make sure your computer has the power and memory to handle editing.

Yeah, just as bdp23 said, if you want to view EOS 60D videos on DVD Player hooked up to HDTV, there is no need to care about its play quality on your PC or mac.

I'd like to share my experience about burning EOS 60D videos to DVD.

EOS 60D records videos in h.264 .MOV format, which a long GOP format that is highly compressed, so it is not a good playing and editing format. Some MOV video player or editing software or burning tools can not handle this MOV files.

So you'd better convert them to MPEG-2 at first. If you are a mac user, you can use a EOS MOV Converter fro Mac(Just Google Search.) to help you convert EOS 60D H.264 MOV files to MPEG-2 at first, then use iDVD to burn the converted videos.

Below is the link that Video and image formats that work with iDVD:

I have the same issue as AshReyn describes. Playback looked awful when it was played on different computers. The movie is of a sport activity and I needed to post it to youtube, but I am afraid to do that, as it doesn’t look presentable.

the original video files are large, and quicktime requires quite a bit of processing power to play them. The video and the audio are handled by separate parts of hardware (typically, audio on your audio card and video split between your processor and graphics card (which may or may not be integrated on your motherboard)). If your computer can't keep up with the video information it just skips ahead and tries again, which is why it's "choppy." The video itself is not choppy; your computer is. Uploading it to youtube will be just fine.

Dear AshReyn,
I had a similar problem and I solved it by downloading and using VLC media player. That's simple! It worked like magic for me.

If you want to purchase software that is good for HD editing on underpowered computers try the cyberlink stuff. Under $100, support for ATI and Cuda, creates low res renders to use while editing and then references the HD files on export.

If just dumping videos online you of course don't need this, but if doing any semi-serious editing I found it a joy to work with and it was much more stable than Adobe. I also don't like to convert the video before I work and this alleviated that problem.
