A quick set with my granddaughter this evening.

Lighting setup consisted of 5 lights: 5' Softbox as the main light on camera left, small softbox as fill light straight behind and above the camera, two strip lights as hair lights (one on each side of her), and a background light so that I could turn the black background gray to separate the black of her dress from the background.

Main was a tiny bit hot, but all the other lights seem well balanced.

#1 is absolutely precious!!!
#2 Not caring for her shoulder being slammed up to her chin like that. A bit blown out on the main.
#3 Super picture except, again, the hot main. Not as bad for this shot though...kind of works! Nice expression and energy!
#4 Looks like more of a snapshot. Not digging it too much.
#5 Love it! Still hot, especially on mom's face, but eh. I wish mom's face wasn't looking straight at camera. Grand daughter is precious in this photo!

I just went through your site. Looks like you typically run your main pretty hot on everything you so in studio. That seems like a trend in senior portraiture now-a-days also. I'm not a huge fan, although i've done it because my arm was twisted ;)

I think it would be interesting to see this same shoot done with two lights and a reflector.

Nice work...beautiful family!
