Jul 04, 2013 17:10 | #662 ![]() cololeo that dog looks almost identical to the pup my Catahoula had. I had selected it as a keeper and gave away the other pups from the litter except for the ones we discovered genetic problems on. I don't know why it took us so long to discover the defect on the one like your dog but it broke my heart to say the least. I still think that was the most beautiful dog I've ever seen. The hair was a little longer than your dog's hair and the head was shaped a little different but that blue merle color scheme is just astounding IMO. I never let my dog have any more pups because of the genetic problems. I couldn't find a male Catahoula anyway except for the same line I got mine from and I didn't want to make the genetic problem worse. People sometimes try too hard to keep those characteristics they like and a lot of animals have to suffer because of it. I know it happens all the time and we likely wouldn't have the breeds we have without line breeding but still it seems like a big sacrifice to get the dog you want. I have seen incredible dogs born from line breeding though including a couple of blue ticks my brother owned that were just out of this world coon hounds. I've never seen any other hounds compare to those two. One was a bit too crazy. If we turned it out we wouldn't see it again until we found it sitting under a tree with a coon in it and sometimes it took a week or more. That was a little too much but it was good enough to become a Night Champion and could have been a Grand Night Champion if my brother had hunted it in the pro level hunts. No doubt it would have won but even being worth $10k (the price of a Night Champion) someone ended up stealing it. A Grand Night Champion will bring $100k so of course it wouldn't have lasted any time at all before someone beat us to the tree. Tracking collars made all the difference with the second dog. It died of old age at my brother's house.

Oct 15, 2013 07:57 | #673 Russ...anyone who gives you crap about your camera is a just a jerk who thinks he's a photographer. It doesn't matter what you shoot with...because it's all in the eye behind the viewfinder... that's where great photographs come from...
