Is it confirmed? Doesn't excite me too...

Photography is about GEAR and not talent or practice. Practice won't make you a better photographer. Expensive equipment will. =D

Are they released yet ? if the answer is yes, then don't buy it. If the answer is no, then who cares.

No, I just made up the rumor.

Was just thinking since the swivel screen has been the update on 600D and 60D, I would think it's natural progression.

Nothing confirmed.

Then there is nothing but a classic rumor to stir up emotions in the fanbases of the respective cameras. Even if such a path would seem logical it's unlikely it will happen as those bodies are dedicated to a different type of customers and not your average Joe homeshooter who wants to film his kids baseball game or bugs sitting on flowers. Canon knows what they are doing, have some faith in them. :)

It is nicer than you think. Just being able to fold it away and keep nose grease off of it is a huge plus. I'm not sure it would end up on the 1 series though....it would definitely affect weather sealing and long term durability. I could see it on the 7D Mk II for sure, but not sure if it will go to full frame bodies.

I've never understood the argument to not have a swivel screen. They only add extra functionality. If you want to swivel them and have them in the same position as current fixed screen DSLRs, then you can do. However I quite often like to take landscape shots near ground level. I don't particularly like lying in the mud straining my neck at some awful angle trying to get those shots with my 5D MkII or 7D. I get jealous watching my wife with either her G12 or 600D just swivel the screen, and then crouch and take the shot in comfort.

I also like the way she can swivel her screen away and leave a nice hard plastic facing outwards on the back.

So to those who are dismissive of swivel screens, I have to say I don't understand your negative attitude to them. A useful feature, that you don't need to use.

James

Not useful to everyone. I personally don't have use or need of it.

It does add a extra parts, it adds a hinge on the side of the body, it adds a bezel around the screen and it seems to require a pretty significant change in the layout of the buttons on the back of the camera - like on the 60D that has small buttons surrounding the rear wheel:

Unlike the 7D that has large buttons lined up on the left side:

Since I need to use the buttons much more than I need a swivel screen, any functionality sacrificed to make way for the screen is a negative for me.

Actually - you can access every button except for erase on the 60D with your right thumb - to me, that is a huge advantage so your left hand is free to hold the lens.

Do you need to hold the lens when going through the menu or reviewing photos?

I would love a swivel screen, especially for video. I've been very happy with the one on the G11.

If they do do it then the hinge needs to be under the viewfinder, thus giving back buttons and being more useful to those making videos.
