Thanks Jay.

A couple more processed last night. Moving out of Morraine park, we met this guy. Not HDR, but worth sharing:

For the remainder of the day the snow came in and took away any views we had. We spent the next several hours driving to various areas and hiking around to see what we could find. Mostly streams and creeks:

There are a are a few landscape (even in profile mode) that caught my eye - but not numbered so I can't single them out as my favs... .:)
I had to comment on the "buck" shot though (it's the one with the buck in it) - great framing and detail.
I just can't believe he would not stay still for 3 quick exposures.

Not sure if its only me or not but the shadows are the blackest black I've seen in awhile. Anyone?

Of course the shadows are dark, it was pre-sunrise.

Everyone knows that lifting the shadows at pre-sunrise is a no-no. ;) It kills the mood of the shot and the colors of the sky get lost in the other areas of the photo. At this time of day you want the stronger contrast.

Thanks Spike :)

Bob, I'm assuming you're referring to the first pic? Not sure if the shadow comment is a good thing or bad. I've been having monitor/colorimeter issues lately which I thought I corrected. If it's too dark please let me know.

You guys sick of these yet?

Jon, are you cloning all the snow flakes out?

Most of these were shot with aperture set to around f/10 to f/16 for larger DOF, requiring the shutter to be open to long to freeze the snow flakes. If you look closely at the shot under the elk you can see the snow streaks on the right side in the shadow area of the tree. And in the shot below it, on the left side under the snow reflection. The only cloning or spot removal was to eliminate the water spots and sensor dust.

Our excursion ended in a fantastic area called the Alluvial Fan where a lake upstream broke through it's dam and sent 29 million gallons of water down a 3 miles trail. The result deposited 42 acres of rocks and trees. My new favorite area in the park.

One more shot for this series. I recently purchased Topaz Adjust and have been playing with it some. It definitely added quite a bit to this shot, which I didn't feel was post worthy before.

I don't know what you are talking about, but that is EXACTLY how I remember it. Good capture. LOL

Yeah, you went a little far with it but I think it looks cool the way the cool colors and warm colors meet up. You could have created a duplicate layer and then applied Topaz Adjust to the new layer and then mask out the foreground some. This would have given you all that affect just on the sky. Also, with that technique you can adjust opacity of the layer AND the opacity of the brush to control the affect more.

Very nice, I like what you did with it. You mind sharing what you did in TA? I might blend mine from that night as well and see what I get out of it.

Thanks Tyler. I honestly don't remember which setting I used in TA, but I've been adjusting them in their anyway. The more I play with it, the more I end up choosing between 3 or 4 of the supplied defaults, but more than half the time I end up tweaking a bunch of the settings ending up with a custom for the moment. This one was probably based on Mild Details with a bump up in some of the exposure settings, but that's just a guess.

I use the technique you mentioned fairly often to adjust area's of a photo differently. In this one I copied the base layer before bringing into TA and then masked out about 20% of the foreground to lesson the TA effect on that area.

Last week I met TGrundvig in RMNP for a spring photo shoot. The weather went from sunny and warm on Thursday to Blizzard by mid morning on Friday. As I get through the ton of shots we took, I'll post up the better ones, but here's a preview of the first one out of the can. Tyler, please feel free to post up your shot's in this thread if you want.

This shot is from Moraine Park about 45 minutes before sunrise. 5 manual shots ranging from 1 to 30 seconds at f/13:
