I want to contact the near by salons and try to get a portrait day setup with them.

For those that have, what kind of deal did you have setup with them? Did you share a % of the sales or was it a friendship thing? You bring in business for them, they bring in busienss for you.

What kind of packages were people interested in? I was thinking of making 4 packages, with the first one being the one to get them in the door so to speak, and the rest being really good deals that will make it worth my time. Starting off with a simple 8x10, 2nd one having 3 sheets, 3rd one having an 11x14 and a few sheets, and the last one having a 16x20 canvas and many sheets.

Im also not out going and hate approaching people I dont know. I guess the best time to contact a salon about this sort of thing would be when the first open, that way they shouldnt be to busy yet. Probably not on a Monday or Friday since they may be a bit tired from or for the weekend.

I have thought of doing the same thing, on a smaller scale. Using my cousin, a Hair Stylist, to do an on location "Glamor Shots" kind of day. Let her do the selling to her clients and we would split the profits.

Contacting the Salon: Most are closed on Mondays, if they are open it is doubtful that any decision makers are there. You are right about the rest, call in the morning and not Fri, Sat, Sun.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes!

it doesnt seem like a smaller scale, seems to be the same thing. :)

there is no shortage of hair salons in this area, in the town that my studio is in, it seems like there is one in every other building. :) The trick will be to find the trendy one.

My goal is to find salons that like the idea and book them for 2 times a year, once in teh summer and once in January or February. My goal is to fill next Jan/Feb with these since those are my slow months.

My secondary goal is to build a good relationship and be able to advertise my studio in their salon with portriats. :) more people that see my work the more potential clients I could get. :D

I am way behind schedule on this, I wanted to start back in February, but I was trying to line up a few models in the 30+ range but of the 4, no one has been able to schedule anything cuz of schedule conflics or just slow getting back to me. I think Ill just end up using my senior reps for this so I can get a move on. I want to have at least 6 pictures of 3 models to show them. I am horrible on the phone so I prefer to do this stuff in person. :)

Im hoping not to give the salon a cut of the profits, because Ill have to really increase the package prices to be able to justify it. Perhaps toss in free digital files of the pictures that were ordered, small res and med res depending on what the client ordered, that way its not extra work. Maybe a couple full res for their advertising to sweeten the deal.

If I were to this, I would make a few large prints from the event to hang in the salon. That way, they get professional images for their salons, of their clients, and of their hairstyles. It would cost some money, but if you can get some nice ones, you will be able to hopefully book more gigs. Just think of it as the cost of doing business/marketing expense.

I was already thinking of that. :) Advertise in the studio with a few of the picture from that day and then after that update it with new senior portraits. Probably rotate the senior pictures from salon to salon to help keep it cost effective. :)
