Thanks for the comments. No idea why I was shooting at 1/500 that day. Just pulled up some older soccer pics and I'm at 1/1000 - 1/1600. I see the point on the crops as well. Just re-did these shots and they do improve to my eye.

I found it useful for the most basic of edits, but for something like this, with tree, building and grass in background, I was not able to do much except make a mess with it.
