The pseudoscientist I am, I decided to run this controlled experiment only a few would appreciate.

I tested Nifty Fifty vs. Manually focused lenses. 4 F Stops starting with the widest, 2.0, 2.8, & 4.0. Nifty Fifty struggled some with focus. All ISO 100 with Aperture Priority setting on my old 20D.

I will post the pictures in order of :

1. Nifty Fifty
2. Yashinon DS 50mm F/1.7
3. Super Takumar 50mm F/1.4,
4. Nikkor 50mm AI F/1.4.

Enjoy

Agreed... in both photos, the nifty is not focused on the owl. It's on the pole behind it.

Not to mention all the samples are underexposed.

I'm going to retake the pictures with Nifty Fifty and I will manually focus.

Ok, retook the pics with Nifty Fifty manually focused. I also upped the exposure. I know..now it's not a good comparison. But y'all get the idea.

Nifty Fifty when properly focused, it's one sharp lens.

Nikkor takes the Bokeh tho.

Not a bad idea, especially considering how little these MF normals tend to cost. I'd have to do a head count to tell you how many I've kept.

I don't know if they cost little. Nikkor cost me $140 and Super Tak cost me $99.

Yashinon came in a box full of lenses and cameras for a $100. I posted this on "One Man's Junk" thread.

I keep thinking one day I'll use some of these lenses on a 4/3 camera.

But I'm pretty certain I'll be using the Nikkor for the Video on my 5D Mark II.
