Intense light/long exposure, bad for sensors?

Sorry for such a newbish question, but I need to ask because I don't want to damage the sensors because I didn't know better.

Will intense light, super slow shuttle speed, or the combination of both damage the sensor?

Not that I'm going to point the camera at the sun at 12noon without lens and cover, but if I were to shoot a scene and the sun (or any source of intense light) is my subject, should I be worried about damaging the sensor?

Camera is T2i if that makes any difference. Thanks!

Unless you have a setting that involves neutral density filters and/or small apertures you will end up with a white photo (of overexposure) if there's a long exposure of a bright subject. If you are using neutral density then the light isn't in fact bright hitting the sensor.

There is some risk with the sun and live view which is not advisable.

Haha yeah more or less, didn't find it until after I posted it up. It was buried in page 3 or 4 at the time.
