DIY lightbox

Probably more of a beginner question but I figured I might get some help here.

I made a DIY light box using a cardboard box. I cut out windows on the sides and top and covered them in tissue paper. I use a little work lamp with a 13w cfl on each side. I can't get the white balance right. I tried Auto white balance, tungsten, cfl, and they all are turning out yellow or darker looking. Am I just not using enough light? If i hit autocorrect in lightroom is fixes it perfectly but I'm annoyed that I can't get it right!

I'm shooting in AV mode on a 60d with a 15-85mm wide open.

The 60D can do a custom white-balance - you can use a grey card or or manually adjust it. Without re-typing the whole thing, it's Pages 96 and 97 in my manual for the 60D.

If you're shooting RAW, however, it's probably easier to fix it in DPP using the Color Temperature WB settings. Fiddle with the slider until it looks right.

Hope that helps!

EDIT :

I also should have pointed out that it's highly unlikely you're going to to find a preset on the camera that works for CFLs. They're notoriously color-inconsistent, especially if they haven't warmed up fully (about 10 minutes or so). What little luck I've had has been with the "daylight" colored bulbs. They're a little pricier, but worth it, IMHO.

Your lighting is tremendously even, which I'm sure was your intent, so, you nailed that. Nice!

With that shot to work with, I wouldn't bother with the color-temp settings in either DPP, ACR, or whatever you're using. I'd set my white-balance using the dropper.

If you're adamant about getting it set in the camera, I get that. The color temperature setting on the camera will probably work for you.

I don't think this is terribly accurate, but, I took a picture of your picture. AWB did nail it down for me, but, setting the color temp white balance to 4100K also looked pretty good.

Thanks for the advice and information everyone. I knew how to get it right in PP, I was just curious if it was my lighting or my method of WB. I did what the manual said and did customer white balance. Took a picture of the white posterboard and set it as custom WB and the shots came out PERFECT. It feels good just to understand results even if I'm not going to use the custom WB everytime.
