Hi there sorry for coming in and not introducing myself.. been lurking for quite a while and reading loads.
I've got a problem that has happened quite recently and of my own doing but I can't remember what program i altered to cause this....

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 403 | MIME changed to 'text/html' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

As you can see the two pics are the same just one rotated and the aspect ratio is way off... now here's the embarrassing bit... i remember a popup box appearing asking if i wanted to select Square Pixles and i can't remember if i ticked it or dismissed it or even in what program.:o
since then a lot of my portrait pictures have looked very long looking... any ideas what i could have done cause this?
Even using explorer my thumbnails have the same stretched look, same too in picasa irfanview and photoshop programs.
i have CS5 and Lightroom

I'm not 100% sure but i think the option popped up when i tried using Bridge for the first time.. well that's my best guess anyway... it may have been even in photoshop or lightroom as i had them all open at one time or another around the time when i spotted my problem.

Any ideas or pointers would be gratefully received
Cheers BBB
I should add it's only recent pictures that seem affected

What OS are you using?

And, do you have/use a video editor? This is a function for video (obviously not for still photography).

I did a Google for "select square pixel and got this page:

I may offer you some clues.

Hmm, well I know Photoshop does have some square pixel "stuff", like you said dealing with video, but I know nothing about it.

In PS - look under the "View" menu for the item "Pixel Aspect Ratio" where you can choose the pixel aspect ratio, and "Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction" where you can turn the correction on and off. Did you import a sequence of images into photoshop as an image sequence? This will prompt you in a manner similar to what you are describing. Are you, for example, trying to render a video from a sequence of still images of the helmet to make it look like the helmet is on a turntable and rotating about it center?

Not all cameras use square pixels, but I am not aware of anything in LR, Adobe Bridge or ACR that would change the pixel aspect ratio from anything other than the image default, but there is in Photoshop.

I'm using a 400d and i'm afraid i'm a bit ignorant to all this pixel sizes etc.
the screen capture shows what i'm getting below
the image on the left is how my photos appear to me now on my screen.. the one on the right has been scaled to D1/DV PAL (1.09) to make it look right
I'm sure i'm doing something stupid I just need to figure out what that is:)
also on the left image does anyone know what the astrix means after the (RGB/8)*

right now here's the crazy thing now the screen capture looked fine when i did it on my PC but when i uploaded it to photobucket the left image, the one that appears stretched and the wrong aspect ratio in photoshop is now fine on both photobucket and when posted on this forum... the image on the right... the one i scaled to look right in PS now looks if it's been stretched out width wise in the posted image.
my PC screen resolution is 1360 by 768 if that helps anyway.

I'm really confused now:D

It means that the document is in a different RGB colour space than your working space.

Why are you scaling to a European video standard?

Are you producing a video slide show in PAL?

I don't understand why you have gotten tangled up in this, but I do know that every camera I've had (five of them) has had non-square pixels and I'd be willing to bet that applies to every Canon EOS. I have never heard of anybody scaling to square pixels in ten years experience with digital photography and I think that it is an absolutely illogical thig to do. It stands to reason that the native capture from the camera is the dimensionally accurate version and any rescaling can only distort it.
