Proflash Compact Flash Supreme IV 400x 32GB (60mb/sec) , 160$ here, vs 270$ for a sandisk. I can't find any review so if someone uses them I would like to know if they are reliable !! Thanks :)

PS: I guess 60mb/sec is enough for an XTi/ 7D ? Or do I need the more expansive 90-100mb/sec ? A 14mb raw file should take ~2sec to tf on 60mb/sec i guess

I can't say anything about proflash, but I will throw in my 2 cents here :)
I'd recommend you stay with smaller capacity cards, they're cheaper, and if something goes wrong, you don't lose 32GB worth of data. Stick to 4-8GB cards, you save tons of money, they perform just as well, and you have peace of mind.

Proflash is a new name to me so can't say anything on that score. I would recommend Transcend as a cheaper alternative to Sandisk. 60mb/sec should be plenty fast enough unless you shoot dozens of frames at full frame rate all the time.

As for size get the 32GB card, it was not that long ago folk were saying dont get a 2GB card play safe and get 2 X 1GB card, they be saying the same thing in ten years time when 1TB cards are available.

If you really want to play safe find yourself a stock of 256MB cards, your only going top lose a couple of shots if one fails.

Thanks for the answer !

My second question is: Should I get the Extreme Pro (90mb/sec UDMA 6) or the Extreme (60mb/sec UDMA 5) ? The 60mb/sec is also cheaper !

I'm saving for a 7D and now I mostly shoot raw (~14mb on my XTi 10mp).

So is 60mb/sec fast enough ? I might shoot some 1080p movies too. I rarely shoot in continuous burst, just on very special occasion.

Thanks !

FWIW, I have a 7D with sandisk 60mb/sec. I'll shoot burst shoots of my golf swings or while snowboarding and fast enough to clear the buffer. i've also recorded 3-4mins at 1080p perfectly. I also shoot everything in full size raw.

The other day I found an old 8 Megabyte CF card I got with a Nikon P&S camera about 10 years ago. Would only possibly get one jpeg from my 7D on it if I was lucky.

60 MB/s will easily be fast enough. For video you only need 8 MB/s. When shooting bursts the camera writes the files to a fast buffer, so card speed isn't important until the buffer fills (that's 15-20 raw files on a 7D). If you do fill the buffer then a faster card will empty it in a shorter time (say, 10 seconds instead of 15 seconds).

Fair point, but not that long ago photos didn't take up ~14 mb, so in 10 years time, if a photo takes up 100mb, then yes, 32GB cards may very well be the "standard" :)
