Caught a scary crash last weekend at the WMRC races @ Mission Raceway near Vancouver.

The rider on the bottom (Randy Kingston on bike 23) was airlifted to hospital from the track with multiple injuries including 11 broken ribs, 2 punctured lungs, bleeding in his lungs, a tear in his liver, 2 bleeding kidneys, a small break in his lower back. He has a chest tube inserted to drain the blood from his lungs. He should be discharged from hospital early next week.

The other rider (bike 49) was unhurt and returned to race later in the day.

Scary stuff - thank God for back protectors.

Rather than post multiple photos here, the entire sequence of photos is here (external link)

Bad smash indeed. Hope the rider makes a full recovery from what appears to be quite serious injuries. Amazing shots.

Fyi,
Its considered bad luck to photo the careflight helo... Did it once, rider expired in flight. Those are photos you dont want.

I highsided myself last week at ecr.. 97mph. Safety gear is amazing these days.

The injured rider's wife and daughter (both in the medical field) asked for lots of photos of the Air Ambulance - so I obliged. It also helps that I don't have a superstitious bone in my body!

I'd consider it more bad taste than bad luck. Further, the track and medical people do not want photos taken of medical crews doing their jobs out of fear of possible litigation.
