Right before the rain came back here in Seattle, I ventured down to one of my favorite gardens. These are handheld largely unmanipulated shots with my Canon 85mm f/1.2 at or close to wide open.

I don't know which, but one of them told me to upgrade from the 85/1.8!
Really, I think one of the images told me to! :p

All gorgeous, and nothing like anything I've ever created or conceived. Thanks.
I pick:
#3 for the detail
#2 for the context (more story in background)
#4 for a condolence card (I mean that as a compliment)
#1 is almost an unrecognizable abstract (also a compliment)

I like making photos and sometimes I think I'm getting better... then I realise it doesn't matter. I like making photos!

Nice! Rare occasion this year in Seattle having sun. Love the lens also.

I agree that these are great.

Makes me think of a surreal abstract.

These photos reminds me of this posting by Mike Moats as related to very shallow DOF:

The brights and the bokeh combine to look like a glow. Impressive.

Cool shots.

Very, very nice. There's a real mood conveyed with the DOF in these shots. Thanks for sharing. Looks like my 85mm f/1.2 is getting out of the studio and going on a field trip!
