I know the L-358 only works wirelessly with Pocket Wizards. I want to use a light meter wireless but I don't need to buy Pocket Wizards.

I am wondering if the more expensive Sekonic L-785DR will work with other wireless triggers? From what i'm reading below is that it may work with other wirless triggers? Does anyone know for sure?

Not with an internal wireless module. In fact, it comes with the same exact module the L-358 uses. As of yet Sekonic only works with Pocket Wizard. Now, thats not to say you can WIRE connect any wireless transmitter up to either and get the light meter to fire the wireless transmitter via a cable and then in turn the wireless transmitter fires the strobes. That is what I have planned to do with my L-758DR and Elinchrom Skyports, but I have yet to try it.

Any light meter can measure Flash, Flash via the cord and ambient.
So, if you want to use another brand of triggers, just use Flash settings, press and hold the measure button near your subject and trigger your strobes and it will measure your flash/es.

And yes, this is also true. I was only speaking to the wireless triggering portion.

Quad Triggering is a Sekonic and Pocket Wizard proprietary system.

Proprietary? Isn't quad triggering the same functionality like group settings (e.g. Elinchrom Skyports)?
