For simplicity sake I'm just looking for people who have been accredited to shoot the race. Looks like I will be shooting it this year and I'm not familiar with the photo positions (of which there are many!). Is this a track that is going to need the 600mm or the 500mm? On a Canon 1dMKIV , so with a 1.3 crop factor. Is there any point at all taking my 300mm f2.8 ?

Thanks!

I haven't but a mate shot for Suttons last year.
Have a look here at his images.http://www.graphicdakphotos.com …eywords=le+mans&page_id=1 (external link)
If I were you I'd definitely be taking my 300/2.8 and any other gear you have.
better to have it and not need it than not have it and need it.
If it were me, 70-200/2.8 and 300/2.8 would be the first things that would go in my kit.

Thanks Phil - my only consideration is several very long flights to get there so ideally dont want to take more than I need and has me wandering. Do you happen to know what long glass he was using ?

Not 100% certain but his typical kit is a couple of 1 Series bodies (MkIV's, I think these days, could be III's) 400/2.8, 70-200/2.8 a couple of shorter lenses (17-40 etc), 2x and 1.4 converters, couple of flashes etc.
I do know he used the 400/2.8 at LeMans and if I remember correctly, he took the same kit as he uses when at home.
He also did the Turkish F1 on the same trip.

Sutton is on Twitter and as soon as he gets home from Turkey you can catch him that way.
Also, you might want to take your question over to Ten Tenths. Some of the snappers in the photo section there will be able to help.

who gives a rat crap how much gear you can list?

I'd take the 500mm and 300mm if you can take both. If not, 500mm and 70-200 would be OK.

I've done it with 300mm and a 1.4x converter, but the extra reach won't hurt in some locations.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the suggestions !

I'm thinking the shear fatigue of carrying a 300 and 500 around for wed, thurs, fri and then 24 hours of sat/sun might be a bit tough so maybe go with the 500 and 70-200 combo. For a two hour race I wouldn't sweat it but 24....... :) or maybe I'm getting too old.

You should be able to get a locker there, so wouldn't need to carry everything round all the time.

Ah now if the press room has a locker that's a different story. the 300 2.8 would be nice at the darker times.... again thanks for the info. Great community of photogs here!
