This was a really fun show (despite the technical issues with the sound):

Thanks, Tim. They were really a blast to shoot. The 97's had a couple of these up on their home page for a while.

It also helped to have some lighting for a change. The venues I've been shooting at in Brooklyn basically have two red Home Depot light bulbs and a grow light...

Really great set top to bottom. My only nit is most seemed to be framed too center. Other than that, the emotion, moments, lighting, exposure, etc....all really great.

I was supposed to shoot that show but couldnt due to a scheduling conflict. You made me wish I did now.

Great shots. Like #2 the best. Perfect timing and angle on the jump shot. His leg is at the same angle as the mic stand. I bet you planned that way.....

Thanks Ian!
#2 is a big favorite of mine, too. I like that his tele has been beat to sh*t from playing. And of course I planned the angle of the mic stand...(yeah right).
Actually, the jump shot almost didn't happen. When I saw him climb the drum riser and then put one foot on the amp, I made some quick exposure adjustments and framed out the scene. Then just as he jumped, the bass player walked into the right of my frame about 5 feet from me...in the dark. Another second and he would have been a black, unfocused blob in the center of the frame. As it was, I got the shot off just in time and just needed to crop my landscape shot into a portrait orientation.

#6 really shines in this set. It's one of my favorite looks in a venue shoot. The "starburst" right behind the subject just screams.

The jump in #7 is perfect. He's looking right at the drummer and the drummer is smiling because he knows what's happening. Very well done.

-Charles
