Wow, so not just long lenses? Confusing -- if short L's have it, why don't I see it with my 50 so much? I'm sure every lens is capable of it, but my 85 1.8 seems to epidemic of it lately!

I think it relates more to the wide apertures but I'll admit I never delved into the issue -- and, like was mentioned, there are at least two or three approaches to correcting things if they are noticeable.

Relatively speaking, the "Thrifty Fifty" isn't really a "fast" lens. Consider that the same diameter is available in two faster flavors...

Yeah, the 50L has a rep!

Funny story about this -- I was doing some street photography in my little downtown a couple of years ago and was shooting with the 85L and came across this statue of either a relgious female figure or a historical one, I don't recall which. Some folks had "decorated" her with a neclace of white beads. I grabbed a couple shots wide open, one backed off and one closer:

I vaguely noticed a purplish tint on the beads:)...when I quickly processed the shots and uploaded them to PBase. A bit later I posted one up here in an image sharing section without really paying attention to what I was doing, and a kindly POTN memeber said something like "were those beads really purple like that?"...well check out the "unfixed" shot and judge for yourselves:):

Well, since purple was not "native" to the image, in Lightroom I pulled Purple Saturation all the way back (-100) in the HSL tab and was pretty satisfied (and relieved) at the result. Otherwise some fine brushing with a local adjustment brush would have been called for:
