Sticky mode selection dial

My mode selection dial and power switch has some sort of sticky substance preventing smooth operation. When I power on, it moves the mode selection dial and when I change shooting modes sometimes it moves the power switch a bit. Upon further investigation, it seems there's some sort of sticky substance messing things up. Is there an easy way to remove the dial and or switch and clean things up?

I said I'd never let my wife use my cam after the last fiasco, but I guess I didn't learn my lesson, it smells like it might be maple syrup or something..sigh

Okay, electronics part cleaner and a few q-tips seems to have fixed the issue. I did some looking around and removing the mode select dial seems to require quite a bit of disassemby so I won't be risking that. Otherwise, it's a trip to Jamesburg when I fly back to NY, wish me luck.......

Have you tried pouring some really high % alcohol in behind the sticky dial? Just make sure all batteries are removed and that the alcohol is as clean as it gets, preferably bought at the farmacy.

Let it dry and pour out before using again. Some people fixed their 30d/40d shutter buttons that way.

Or pour that alcohol inside yourself, and I promise you'll consider this problem less important.
