In 2 months I will do my first wedding shooting session in Canada. As I live in Germany, I would like to take minimal gear with me for a maximal results.

I was thinking to take this gear with me:
- 5DM2 (with or without grip?), (Second camera for emergency?)
- 2 batteries fully charged with charger in cases (may be three batteries?)
- Canon Speedlite 580 EX II + Sto-Fen Omni-Bounce
- B+W CPL Kaseman filter (in case of outdoor shooting)
- Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM
- Canon EF 50mm 1.2 L USM

Any advice for gear would be most welcome.
I do not have a tripod yet and also need advice one for my 5DM2

If you are getting paid for the wedding, then yes, you need backups of your gear.

They are all great options. Who knows what will happen in 2 months. I doubt there will be a new camera out, and even then, it'll take a few more months until it hits the shelves.

I shoot with the 5D2 + 1D3 myself, but wouldn't mind a 2 x 5D2 setup. I like the 1D3 b/c I shoot a little bit of sports for fun during the summer.

You have the 24-105L and the 50L correct?

I can't really say because as you put it, you are traveling for this and don't want to carry around too much right?

I think the 5D2 and 24-105L is certainly a good enough combo, although it's an f4 lens, which may or may not be an issue depending on things like location, lighting condition, flash usage permission, etc. Having 105mm on the long end may or may not be good enough, and again, that depends on access, etc. It's certainly nice having a lens longer than that for the reach, ability to isolate, compression, etc, but I don't think it's all that mandatory. It's really taste dependent.

The 50L will definitely come in very useful.

I'd say at this point, get a backup/second body, and you will be set. A 1.6x crop body will give you more "reach", at the same time the 24mm end will become more like 38mm. But you'll have the 5D2 if you need 24mm so that might work out.

Up to you really...

When I travel to another country to work I always bring 2 camera bodies (usually my 7D and 5D), 3 lenses (24-105, 100, and 50), two flashes (580 II and 430 II though I think next time I'll leave the 580 at home and just go with a YN-560), 4 batteries (two for each camera), and 4 sets of AAA batteries (2 for each flash). You must have at least two of everything for a wedding, even one in another country. And don't forget enough card memory for not only the wedding but other things you want to photograph while there. I don't like to delete cards until I've backed up my pictures which I don't do until I get home so I make sure to bring enough cards that I don't have to delete anything.

Thanks for all the good advice.

Just a short feed back...
I took the risk and went to wedding with minimal lugguage, since I have to travel...

This is my gear:
Canon 5D mk II
Canon EF 24-105 L
Canon EF 50 L
Speedlite 580 EX II
2 Batteries

This is my personal experience:
Shooting with FF and high MP is a must for PP lateron and cropping if necessary...
Out-door shootings: the 24-105 L is decent and actually almost perfect in many settings
In-door: the 24-105 L is too slow and even with the 580 EXII it is too dark. The 50L is PERFECT for indoor shootings at weddings...

May be the 85 L is better but I do not have it and I am fully satisfied with my 50L, despite some negative critical review on forums...

The 50L is going to be my favorite lens for some time I guess...
