Howdy All,

So, up until recently, for many months, I've been having lots of fun using the free version of the "Prism File Converter" transcoding software along with the free Matrox codecs etc. and then eventually editing in my VMS10 software. I went to transocde some footage yesterday and Prism/Matrox errors-out saying: "Encoder error. Please check your encoder options". I checked the Prism settings/options and they were still set the way I always use them. I recall seeing a post once mentioning that if you ever load tools like Cineform products etc. that you may step on your Matrox codecs or something to that effect. I don't have Cineform but I did load Photoshop Elements 9 a few weeks ago and I'm betting that's when things might have gotten busted . I uninstalled/re-installed Prism and the Matrox codecs but no change. I read that by loading ffdshow, others who loaded a bunch of codecs that stepped on the Matrox codecs, have been able to get the Matrox codecs to work again - no help (maybe I didn't select the proper options with ffdshow).

Other than reloading Windows 7; anyone have any ideas for getting my transcoding software back up again?

Howdy All,

Fixed it! I used a tool called "Installed Codec v1.20" that identifies all of the codecs and DirectShow Filters along with some other related files installed as well as the date of install. I disabled all of the Photoshop Elements 9 DirectShow filters but there was no change with the Prism/Matrox error message. I then noticed that a Blackberry back-up tool that I installed around the same time I installed PSE9 had some DirectShow Filters and after a little bit of disabling and then re-enabling (really easy) using the tool, I got it down to just one DirectShow filter: "MainConcept MP4 Demultiplexer". With it disabled, no more errors so far. I'm not sure if I have to uninstall that filter or if it will just stay disabled. I'll do more extensive testing tonight :D.

Howdy All,

Update: Even though it looked like things were working, there was still a probelm. Prism/Matrox was not throwing errors anymore but the file it created was tiny and wouldn't open in VMS10. To completely fix it, I had to disable two more DirectShow Filters that were installed by Photoshop Elements 9 in addition to the one I disabled that was installed by the Blackberry tool. All is well now.

Disabled from Elements 9:
MainConcept (Broadcast) AVC/H.264 Video Decoder
MainConcept AVC/H.264 Video Decoder
