The colors look unnatural, but the skin work looks good :)

I don't know what "look" you were after, bu the photo appears greenish, very soft focused, and she has an unflattering deep shadow around her left eye. Skin looks smooth.

Looks like the skin may have a tiny bit too much yellow? Go to parties are fantastic.

I used the alien skin filter "Color Film - Agfacolor Neu - Soft Vignette"

should I put a filter mask and bleed through some of the original colour into the face?

Over-saturated (a lot) and yellowish.

(Her) Left eye looks sharp.
Agree about the shadow, but that's a lighting problem.
I like the tone / effect for this type of image every once in a while. Maybe bring it down a bit.

Thanks for the feedback guys, all good.

Couple things learnt here...

- Watch the shadows/lighting (backlit)
- Don't over saturate (caused by lifting blacks as the image was backlit and had lost some contrast)
- Camera set to sRGB but editing in Adobe RGB!!
- Skin work is getting better :D

If you're shooting Raw it doesn't matter what color space you set the camera to use. That is for Jpeg output.

It does however matter what you have your PP software set to use and what you are editing your images for. And more important is that you monitor is calibrated.

so if I export from lightroom to cs5 does it not use the preferences you have set for the export? I mean if lightroom is sending in srgb and cs5 is showing that its using adobe rgb or something.

I guess if I opened in cs5 instead of exporting from lightroom that would help...

Think my monitor is sort of calibrated. This image is pretty blown SOOC though so I could have used a better one to start!

Thanks for the help.

Yes it does! Same if you use the Adobe Camera Raw(ACR) Plugin for CS5.
Lightroom and ACR use the same Raw engines. Whatever you have them set to use is what you will be editing with in CS5 regardless of what you set CS5 to use under "Edit / Color Settings"
In Lightroom in "Edit/Preferences/External Editing/Color Space
In Adobe Camera Raw it is set in the Workflow Options.

However, that's not what I was referring to. It doesn't matter if you set the camera to use sRGB or Adobe RGB if you are shooting Raw. Just like other camera settings, that is only applied to your images from the camera if you are shooting Jpegs.

Sort of calibrated isn't always going to be good enough.

Thanks for that. Makes sense.

I've used the following to try calibrate...

http://www.photofriday.com/calibrate.php (external link)
http://www.lagom.nl …/all_tests.php#invpattern (external link)

Not sure if any of them are any good! but my setup fits in with those. Is there another i can try?

A bit of clarification here -- if you open an image from Lightroom into the PS editor (Edit in Photoshop) Lightroom will perform a color space operation as part of the conversion, but how Photoshop handles it depends on your Photoshop Color settings. If Photoshop is set to a different color space, then you need to have your options for how it handles things set properly -- you can either have Photoshop convert to the working color space or not, and you can have Photoshop alert you of any mismatch. Some combination of options should be set to ensure that you don't have things mixed up.

so essentially, ensure that PS is set to the same colour space as that which is being exported by Lightroom?

And regardless of what colour space i use in camera, if i pull a cr2 file from the camera into lightroom or PS then it wont make one iota difference.!
