Hello All,

First would like to say that this is a fantastic forum. It has definitely helped me decide to order the Canon G3. Lots of great info.

I have found a few online retailers with some wide price ranges for the G3. $425 - $700. Some mention that they are selling the cam + a "kit" , others are just selling the cam and some you can't tell what they are giving you.

This particular on-line retailer is selling the G3 for $575 which includes the "kit":

Can someone tell what is included in the kit? Case, charger, 32mb card, etc?

Is it worth buying the cam on its own (which I have found for $450 online) and later getting the other pieces that I need separately? For example, would rather a 128mb card in place of 32mb.

Thanks for the help.

*cheers* :)

What makes up a kit all depends on what the retailer puts together. There is no "kit" as such coming directly from Canon. You'd actually have to go to the retailer web site (or call them) to find out exactly what you get with their "kit".

Hello.

From the description (Their itemized letters "A - N") further down the G3 page, their "kit" is exactly what you get in the Canon G-3 box. I got the same equipment last month when I bought my g3 from B&H in NYC.

Some retailers will try to sell you a "Professional's kit" which consists of a bunch of stuff (lens cleaner, tripod, cf memory, etc.) which is extremely overpriced.

My suggestion is to just buy the camera with the contents that Canon officially lists, and then buy additional memory, lenses, flash, separately, and not in a kit.

Good luck!

Markm

Also, be cautious about who you purchase from. $450 sounds too low for a G3. When I was looking recently the lowest price I found was at or just below $550.

Anyone selling it for $450 may not be reputable dealer - be careful.

Thanks for the info.

I did see the "Pro" package and it is insanely priced.

Going to get the basic package ($575) that comes from Canon and then later upgrade when needed. Well, probably sooner rather than later with the memory card :)
