Decided to take a 300 2.8 non-IS to a track invitational the other weekend. Here are a few shots.

Your 7th pic looks like Shade Weygandt from Texas Tech. Nice shots.

The shots are far too loose. Shoot tight, crop tighter.

Faces, faces, faces. Only #4 has a good view of the face.

Are those port-a-potties in the background of #1? Give nearly as much thought to the background as to the subject.

What I didn't mention is that I'm using my XSi with only center point focus and the AF on my body is completely fubar. Starting about a week ago, tracking in AI Servo is nearly impossible and yields about a 1 out of 10 shots in focus, if that. The fact that I got any of these shots at all is an absolute miracle. So, these certainly weren't meant to showcase anything, rather just share some of the shots I was actually able to pull off.

Thanks for the C&C, though. I will certainly incorporate those thoughts into future outings.
