Hi,

I have the YN-468 but although highly rated it doesn't play well with my 7D.
I use my camera primarily for family pictures, usually at high speed due to my 3 year old running around like a mad thing, but also for birding (although never successfully as mine never seems to fire in sync!), this could/would include in flight as a flash fill, but I use the 100-400 (at speeds of 1/1000 or faster at up to 7fps!) for that so I don't know how successful that would be anyway.

I understand that the 7D works very well with some models but I cannot recall which.

So which would you suggest?

Also please excuse my ignorance, although I own a few lenses I really know nothing about flashes at all!

Just one more thought, could I slave the YN-468 to what ever you suggest as a second flash?

Thanks,

John

430ex II gives you:
HSS
7D flash commander communicates with it
Excellent quality

You're not going to get multiple flashes in high speed shutter mode with anything
====
To trigger your YN-468 is another can of worms altogether.

430EXII comes to mind, but make sure u have better batteries, something like eneloops 2100mAh. For the recycling to be faster.

580EXII is a good bet as well since u can put on an external power pack for better recycling time.

If budget is concerned, go with the 430EXII since it will be cheaper. If longevity is concerned, meaning more continuous pops, go with 580EXII.

+1 - and I have a 7D and both of those flashes... they work well together

Do you think for my needs I should go to the 580 or will the 430 be enough as I've spotted one for £160 used (if thats a good deal)

Ditto. 430exII is a great flash. 580exII is top of the line, but you may not need it.

I believe 430EXII would be enough. It's only a lil bit less power than the 580EXII, the difference is that 580EXII has more bells and whistles.

Cool, so looks like the 430 EXII is the one for me :)
